To commemorate my return to Bangkok this year after 2 years, just like the Thais, I would like to wish the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej continuous long life. Handley, was banned in Thailand before it was even published because of its critical nature of the king. Visitors and tourists of Thailand might not understand this but I have been in the land of smiles for almost 2 years for my studies. Gordon Gordon had translated into Thai and then posted excerpts of the biography, The King Never Smiles by Paul Handley, on a blog while living in the US. Handley portrays the King as a firm Though The King Never Smiles is, of course, banned in Thailand due to the law against lese majeste, it is a necessary book, because no institution should be immune from criticism. Adulyadej is highly revered by his people. Thai-born Joe Gordon (Thai name Lerpong Wichaikhammat), 55, is a Colorado used-car salesman who was arrested [BBC report] last May while vacationing in Thailand because several years earlier he had translated and posted online excerpts of a locally banned biography of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. For example, the unauthorized biography of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, The King Never Smiles by Paul M. Paul Handley's biography of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, "The King Never Smiles," into Thai, and published it online. The work was deemed to insult the monarch leaving Gordon open to charges of lese-majeste in Thailand. ~Long Live the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej~ But the tour guide never explained why. I just want to share the following is the remarks on Aung San Suu Kyi made by King of Thailand taken from The King Never Smiles: A Biography of Thailand's Bhumibol Adulyadej by Paul M. Paul M Handley's unauthorised biography of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, The King Never Smiles, is unique in that it does not blindly accept the conventional, uncritical view of Bhumibol's reign. Thailand's Bhumibol Adulyadej, the only king ever born in the United States, came to the throne of his place in 1946 and is now the world's longest-serving monarch.
